Do yourself a favour.

Be-as-kind-to-yourself

Be kind to yourself.

It’s about time, isn’t it?

Most of us are (or at least try to be) kind to others. But what about ourselves? What happened to treating yourself right?

Many of us tend to forget this in a time and society where pressure just builds and builds, and we need to be better and better, and we need to do everything right.

But kindness towards yourself is one of the first things you should be aware of and practice.

Why? you ask.

Because if you’re kind to yourself you can be truly kind to others. And if you’re kind to yourself, other people will be kinder to you as well. (The same goes for loving yourself, by the way: only when you truly love yourself can you expect other people to love you unconditionally.)

So don’t be too hard on yourself. Give yourself a pat on the back when you’ve done something good. Acknowledge when you do something right. Don’t look past your own achievements.

Today, I suggest you be aware of your thoughts toward yourself. What kind of thoughts are they? Are they kind? Mean? Degrading? Uplifting?

No matter what they are, stop for a moment – right now – and think of something you do well. Give yourself a compliment – a sincere one. Cut yourself some slack and just feel good for a moment.

I promise, it’ll make your day, and hopefully your whole weekend, so much better.

Endless love,

Jo

  1. Hi Jo! Awesome post! I recently started practicing meditation and self-kindness/self-compassion is a top issue on my mind right now. I had no idea how harsh I am talking to myself before starting this journey. Now I try to be aware of my self-talk and ask myself “Would you say this to another person in the same situation?” The answer is always: No, I could never be this rude to anyone. That’s progress, I guess.
    Take care! Kati

    1. Hi Kati! Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment!
I’m so glad to hear that you’re making progress. You’ve taken the first and most important steps on your journey.
It’s a great tip as well to ask yourself if you would say the same to another person. That’s your best key to knowing what kind of self-talk you have. Thanks so much for sharing this! 🙂 best of luck to you!
